QUEEN bee raising is a specialised task. In a normal hive, only one queen per hive survives, so raising more than one is usually done with artificial cells.

In this photo essay, bee keeper Leonie Twin shows the different steps involved in raising queen bees from grub to mature bee ready to send to a new hive.

A sweet by-product of queen bee raising is honey, which can be seen spun from the honey frames, then ready to be jarred and eaten.
